Humane Animal Society (HAS) Coimbatore is a public Non-Profit organisation founded by animal lovers in Coimbatore in 2006. HAS is registered with the Government of Tamil Nadu as a trust under certificate no. 998/2006 under Section 12A(a) of the IT Act 1961, and all financial contributions are tax-exempt under Section 80(g). HAS is recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI, Recognition No. 175/2008), the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO), and international organisations like the Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS) and DogsTrust International, UK. HAS operates from two locations in the district: a 54,500 sq. ft. (~1.25 acres) Street Dog Sterilisation and Rescue Centre at Seeranaickenpalayam with 18 kennels housing more than 100 dogs, and a 65,000 sq. ft. (~1.5 acres) facility at Vazhukkupparai, which is being developed as a sanctuary for old and disabled pets that cannot be rehabilitated elsewhere, currently with over 100 dogs, over 10 cats, two cows, and a pony.

Seeranaickenpalayam Sterilization and Rescue Centre is run by HAS under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Coimbatore Corporation. The land is owned by the corporation; however, the shelter is completely run by HAS, and the expenses for the spay/neuter programme alone are partially covered by the corporation. The rest of the activities, like rescues, outpatient and inpatient treatments, vaccination drives, adoptions, awareness camps, etc., are completely done by HAS. Vazhukkupparai Sanctuary is fully owned and run by the Trustees and Board members of HAS through funds raised from donations.

HAS employs 29 staff members for its operations, and the annual expenses for the activities undertaken by HAS are over INR 1.2 crore at present, averaging between INR 9 lakhs and 10 lakhs per month.
